Winery Review:
"In the glass, Bogle Merlot is dark garnet in color. Some light does penetrate this wine and many red reflections shine through.
Legs formed immediately upon swirling. They were numerous, varying in size and fell slowly down the sides of the glass.
This is a very aromatic wine. The aroma is noticeable from far away and I picked up earth, tobacco and ripe black cherry. I also noticed the aroma never faded and there was little to no whiff of alcohol.
Bogle Merlot alcohol content 13.5%, per the bottle.
The wine’s taste was very enjoyable. Noted were flavors of bold dark cherry and other rich dark fruits. There was also a hint of vanilla toast. It’s a heavy Merlot, but not overly sweet. It’s also quite smooth drinking."
Wine Folly:
It was quite evident that Tannins were present in the Merlot. The wine's finish was quite long overall. The tannins were present but they didn't overwhelm the long finish of the wine. The Merlot included flavors of black cherry, the tannins, and a chocolaty finish. These flavors are confirmed and expanded upon on pg. 131 of Wine Folly.
My Review:
The wine was absolutely delicious, as described the wine does have significant cherry flavors but it also had hints of plums and chocolate. I tried it on its own but It would certainly go well with sharp cheeses and red meat like pork or steak. It was very smooth and had a tannin structure that was significant but not overpowering. It's a very good sipping wine all on its own and I will definitely have some more again.
