Tasting - William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

Name: William Hill Estate Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon Red

Region: Napa Valley, California

Country: United States of America

Year: 2021

Price: $15.99

Winery Review:

"Rich with chocolate on the nose, mellowing out with time to present aromas of black currant and baking spice courtesy of oak aging. The palate makes good on what is promised on the initial passes, with a bold body full of dark plum, spice, and cocoa powder working together with decent tannins and good acidity. A nice one to enjoy during the weeknights with something fresh off the grill, whether it be burgers or Portobello mushrooms. " (06/15/24)

Wine Folly:

pg. 88 - Wine Folly shows Cabernet Sauvignon as a wine with a significant body as well has high tannin content. This is certainly true for the William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. Something the wine possesses that was mentioned in this page however was the rich chocolate flavors mentioned by the winery. I certainly noted this as well. Like Wine Folly recommended however, I tried it with a serving of steak. As mentioned on pg. 284 of Wine Folly, Napa Valley is known for its suitability for full-bodied red wines like this one, which is probable for why it was as good as it was.

My Review:

The Napa Valley region certainly lived up to its mentioned success at producing full-bodied red wines, as this wine was really great. I expected the wine to not be as great as it turned out to be due to its cheap price. The wine had a rich chocolatey flavor yet wasn't overly sweet. I drank the wine with steak which was a perfect choice, the taste of the dark plums, chocolate, and tannin flavoring within the wine complimented the meal very well. My rating (9.2/10)
