Online Critic Review:
"Made with organically grown grapes, this delicious red has aromas suggesting underbrush, blue flower, eucalyptus and mature black-skinned fruit. The smooth, chewy palate shows ripe Marasca cherry, black plum licorice and hazelnut. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide the framework and generate a rather drying finish. - Kerin O’Keefe"
Wine Folly:
pg. 61 - Wine and Food pairings - Since this is a wine from a similar region and style to my previous review, I wanted to highlight it's differences. This Chianti classico is a bit different from the Gran Selezione. This version of the Chianti Classico is of a different year and lighter variety. Wine Folly advised a food pairing of stewed beef or lamb with a hearty mushroom based sauce. This is a lighter variety of red and as such doesn't pair the same as the Gran Selezione.
My Review:
For my review, I wanted to compare the differences of the Chainti Classico Gran Selezione to this Verrazzano Chanti Classico. Though they share a primary grape variety, these wines are very different. I used the same spaghetti meal to contrast their pairings to the meal and this wine did not pair as well as the Gran Selezione. It was a lot more hearty and has less fruity notes to it. It was a phenomenal wine however it was much more earthy and would've paired with a meal that contained mushroom sauces as suggested. With the spices of a tomato-based dish it wasn't a great pairing. This wine was great on its own though. So I would give it a great rating on its own with the food pairing not being great at my own fault. Overall I would give it 9.2/10.
